How to prevent cut, copy, paste, delete and rename processes to protect data in computer?

      Mostly computer's users work in such a environment where presence of other persons create a potential risk of data mishandling through state's amendment and data leakage through physical sources like USB flash drives and memory cards etc. In home, our relatives and friends can easily access to our computer and they can perform several acts like data cutting, copying, deleting and renaming. In office or business, our co-worker, colleagues and companions can change and displace state of data with or without our knowledge. In most of the cases, we cannot restrain them from using our computer or laptop. Data mishandling and data leakage are both sensitive enough to be worried about them. Even risk cannot be taken in case of trusted ones who are going to access and use our computer. In this situation we can tricked them all using any procedure which can stop basic computer's feature like cut, copy, paste etc.

    Here is a little free piece of program which is going to be introduced which can restrain others from cutting, copying, pasting, deleting and renaming of data files even being able to use computer. "Prevent v 1.0" is small program for this purpose. Prevent can stop other people from duplication and basic manipulation of data on computer where it is installed. Prevent works silently so any other user cannot tackle the situation. Prevent provides a quick solution so we do not need to use it continuously all the time. Only use it when chances are that someone else is going to use your computer. Prevent can be activated in couple of seconds. After installation Prevent provides its icon on desktop as can be seen below;

Let us start program of Prevent and take a look on its user interface;

    We need to define Hotkey before activation of security of Prevent which will disable cut, copy, paste, delete and rename features. We can set any combination of Hotkey using Ctrl key on keyboard. Hotkey combination will be used to deactivate the effects of Prevent later on. For example here, we are going to choose Ctrl + F as a Hotkey combination. For this purpose, Ctrl button will be kept pressed and then F button will be pressed from keyboard. After that both buttons will be released. So, we have set Ctrl+F here as Hotkey.

After defining Hotkey, anti cut copy paste services will be started by clicking Activate button in window of Prevent.

A message box will be appeared confirming that defined Hotkey has been saved. Just click on OK button.

   Protection against cutting, copying, pasting, deleting and renaming has been activated. Now no one can use cut, copy, paste, delete and rename options which are available in context menu appeared after right click. Because all these options become dimmed and not useable. Mostly users perform cutting, copying, pasting, deleting and renaming through right click context menu. They will not be able to do so. That's way Prevent works. Let us check, we have sample folder here at desktop, let us try to copy it.

If event of write click is implemented on Sample folder then context menu is appeared. We can see that concerning options are dimmed and grays out in context menu. Feature of cut, copy, paste, delete and rename can not be used from context menu. Its mean Prevent is working well.

Activation of Prevent does not only make disable cut, copy, paste, delete and rename features from context menu, others ways are also blocked. Data files and folder can be cut, copied, pasted, deleted and renamed using keyboard shortcuts keys combinations. Prevent make disable process of cutting, copying, pasting, deleting and renaming through keyboard shortcuts like Ctrl+X, Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V and Del. "Send to" and "Move to" features of context menu are also disabled. So, this small program Prevent provides a reasonable protection against cut, copy, paste etc.

    When anti cut copy paste services of Prevent are not further needed then Prevent can be stopped by using pre-defined Hotkey. Here, we have already set Ctrl+F as Hotkey to terminate Prevent and its effects on system. So, we are going to press Ctrl+F keys from keyboard consecutively to stop Prevent related anti cut copy paste services.

After pressing keys combination of Hotkey which was set to terminate Prevent, a message box will appear showing text "Exiting because you pressed Hotkey to Exit". Click OK button in message box.

Now, Prevent has stopped completely. After termination of Prevent all features of cutting, copying, pasting, deleting and renaming will start working again as normal. If we want to activate Prevent again then procedure in same as described above.

    Prevent is a handy tool which does not required any additional installation of another item or program. Prevent working has been tested virous versions of Windows operating system. Prevent works fine on Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 10 and Windows 11.

    Detection rate of Prevent by antivirus programs is very low. Almost all antivirus programs allow Prevent's files and services in Windows based computers. So, program of Prevent is coded and compiled lawfully. There is no need to pause or stop antivirus in computer.

    Prevent provides basic protection against unwanted cutting, copying, pasting, deleting and renaming in computer system. Prevent should be used under normal circumstances to trick normal users of computers. Prevent is not so advanced to be used to protect sensitive data files from expert and extreme users. For example, Prevent has a deficiency that files and folders can be copied using mouse left button drag process them form one to an other location even Prevent is activated in computer. If a user knows that how to copy paste data using dragging procedure, then he can copy data to any desired destination during protection of Prevent. F2 button is not restricted to rename a file even Prevent is activated. So, Prevent is not designed to be used any advanced and professional environment. So, keep in mind that we can not fully rely on Prevent to keep our data from disturbance and sharing.
